- RSS has come to stand for Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication. It is a machine readable data format built upon XML that allows other web sites or software to read information that may be regularly updated or changed. Many web sites use RSS as a way to publish recently added links, headlines, articles, news or other content from their site.
