IP Address
All internet connected computers communicate with each other over a low level communications protocol called IP or Internet Protocol. IP requires all computers that want to communicate with other computers to have an IP Address. An IP Address is a 32 bit number that is usually represented in a written format of four octets, where each octet is separated by a decimal point. An example might be 127.34.101.1. All web sites names are internally converted to their IP Address before the web browser or email client can actually communicate with the host.
